Having studied sculpture at Sunderland University and graduating in 1995 with a BA in Art and Design, I have worked in a variety of materials. Most recently this has been in wood.
Working from my studio at home in Hexham I seek to create simple forms that articulate the space they occupy.
I allow the material to speak about the way in which it can be used. Working by hand enables me to have a dialogue with each piece during the process of making.
I combine the considerations of both form and material in each objects realisation. Frequently simplicity of form finds a voice through simplicity of function and is an important part of personal expression. Hopefully these objects bring pleasure to everyday life through their use.
