Summer Morning In Cullercoats. Acrylic and pastel. 65cm wide x 30cm long

I live in the fishing village of Cullercoats which is one of the tourist sites along the North East coast of Northumberland.
I portray coastal and inland urban settings that reveal past and present influences through the people who have lived and worked in the region.
Sites of industrial and maritime interest, such as unusual public houses and railway stations for example, have formed the inspiration for my work in painting.
I have exhibited in many venues, such as art galleries, art fairs, and other public places, locally and in London.
I am currently producing paintings of coastal settings working in mixed media of oil or acrylic paint and pastel.
My inspiration comes from many walks along the coast. They recall the sensations felt of the warmth of sunlight; the rush of sea air; and the rising, gushing, swirling and rippling of the sea water.
My colours interpret time and season. My paintings form impressions of my response to the environment.

I was born in Cornforth near Durham city. After a career in teaching and an eight year gap to look after my family I completed a B.A. Honours Degree in Fine Art at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle upon tyne. In 2005 I graduated with a Masters degree in Fine Art at Sunderland University.
Since 2006 I have exhibited regularly singly and in collaboration with other artists . I have sold paintings at many of the venues. I have been a member of Network artists for ten years
