Claire Priestley
Kirkcarrion near Middleton-in-Teesdale. Wet felted Merino wool and mulberry silk fibres, embellished with machine embroidery and needle felting.

I trained as a teacher at Northumbria University (Newcastle Polytechnic as it was then) and as a primary school teacher, have enjoyed teaching children ‘Art and Design’ for over twenty years. Recently, I decided to diversify, and as a passionate felter created ‘Teesdale Felt’. I now offer wet felting and needle felting workshops to the local community and thoroughly enjoy creating my own artwork inspired by the beautiful landscapes of Teesdale, N. Yorkshire and the Lake District. I use Merino wools, mulberry silks and various fibres to create 2D and 3D scenes on pictures, lampshades and vessels. I have experimented with Shibori techniques and use yarns and fibres to create different silhouetted effects on illuminated felt.
