I have been a woven textile artist for over 30 years, weaving unique individual items such as scarves, table linen, throws, and floor rugs.

I am a woven textile artist living in Hexham. I began weaving nearly 30 years ago, having always been interested in textiles; embroidery, canvas work, lace and spinning.

I have attended various courses culminating in the Bradford HNC in weaving and design, graduating in 2004.

Each item is individually designed and my range includes scarves, cushions, rugs, hangings and tableware, and lengths of cloth made to the client’s specification.

I use various yarns such as wool, rayon, tencel, cotton, linen and silk, often being hand dyed or painted with dye. Many of my fine scarves use a technique which I have been developing over the past 9 years, whereby having wound a white warp (the long threads) in sections, they are hand painted with a subtle mix of colours before going on the loom and weaving over them. When finished the colours in the warp shine through showing pleasing mixes and gradations of colour. Lately I have used an undulating twill pattern which gives an extra texture to the finished article. Linked with this is a new design, also twill, which appears to have an ‘exploding shape‘ in the design.

Much of my stimulus comes from nature, captured in photos when out walking or travelling abroad, for later application into fabric. Many of the names given to my scarves reflect this either in their use of colour or texture.

I am always pleased to welcome people to my studio by prior arrangement, or to undertake personal commissions.
